Digital voice recorder for dictating and transcription

  by (consumersearch.com) - Sep, 2010

consumersearch.com

The Sony ICD-MX20 is a professional-grade digital voice recorder that's especially recommended for those who do lots of dictation and transcription. It is optimized for use with Nuance's Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech-to-text transcription software...

Best accuracy with speech-to-text software, built-in recording editing, expandable memory

Price, very little built-in memory, records using proprietary file formats

Great little device!

  by Ghimmy47 (newegg.com) - Jan, 2011

Everything about this recorder is quality, from battery cover to markings to control layout. Oh makes a great MP3 player too with the included stereo earbuds. Those 1 Gb cards are ridiculously cheap now too.

Beautiful, impressive little recorder smaller than it looks in the photos. The center control is a micro joystick that makes menu navigation intuitive. Left gets menu, clearly marked. Up and down pages through menus. Push down selects, then toggle...

Beats me I can't find one. Sony clearly explains power needs are so low no power switch is needed, but you can turn off the LCD display if you want

Nice recorder

  by Keith (newegg.com) - Dec, 2005

I really like the design of this unit. It is so compact it is un believable. As for not having a power switch it doesn't need one. When it is not recording it is basically off. It only has an LCD display that stays on all the time which is very very...

Records in a format that must be converted if you want to play it on a CD. I wish that the software would convert the files to wma or mp3 instead of just an uncompressed wav. I have other software that can handle that so it is not a big deal

Excellent Sound, Awful Software

I have had this recorder for four years now. I have had the opportunity to use it frequently lately due to my interview-based research. Based on my experience: PROS * Sleek design * Lightweight * EXCELLENT sound recording * Good display screen *...

Controls are very poorly designed.

  by J. Billingsley (amazon.com) - Oct, 2009

Controls are very poorly designed.

Don't buy this, the Navigation/control button in the center is extremely fragile and the device will be useless. The button operates like a joystick but also most of the functions of the device have to be manipulated through this tiny button. It is...

Good item, completely incompatible with MAC

Good item, completely incompatible with MAC

It is a nice solid unit, although relatively expensive for the features included. I was disappointed that it is completely incompatible with anything Apple. If you want to convert the sound files to a format you can use on other devices, i.e. mp3...

Won't Sync with Naturally Speaking if You Have Vista

The recorder itself is excellent. Just be aware, though, that a compatibility problem with Vista will prevent you from training a user profile for the recorder in Naturally Speaking 10: [...] There is a work-around for now. Hopefully, the problem...

Worthless!

Worthless!

All I wanted was a recorder that I could use for dictation/transcription with my copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking + MP3 player functionality as a secondary use. What a waste of time! With the hoops I have to jump through to fiddle with the folders,...

Great product. Software works under Linux/Wine

I've used this for a couple weeks now, and I love it. The unit has a robust feature set and is very versatile. I'll give bullet points. \n- The removable storage was a big draw for me. At ten bucks for a 1Gb card, I can use the cards themselves for...
