Linksys' WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router seems to have taken the lead over its sibling the WAP54G Access Point. Although it's priced about the same, it has a key difference that you should know about before you buy. Read our review to make an...

Linksys has introduced the first access point that's compliant with the 802.11g draft. Is it worth the upgrade?
High throughput; easy setup wizard; includes high-end features; nice price
Incompatible with some older 802.11b radios; one-year warranty
The WAP54G offers a significant speed improvement, making it a good buy for offices looking to upgrade existing 802.11b networks.

Great back in 2004, I still use it at home. 1000% reliable with dd-wrt.
WIthout dd-wrt crashes over 9000 times drops connections ; DD-WRT fixes everything. Put additional power to TX 119mw on mine and bam REALLY GOOD COVERAGE
Slow, low specs on this unit. 2 megs of flash and 8 megs of ram LOL ; 200mhz cpu, I have mine oc'd to 237mhz

Decent throughput, consistent connectivity, easy access to settings, and as my household has grown, the router has handled additional wireless clients beautifully
Unable to keep up with blazing 5Mhz Wireless-N throughput of newer routers

This router was easy to config - worked awesome for two years then started randomly dropping my connection while I was connected to a VPN network. I changed the firmware to Tomato and I haven't experienced any connectivity issues since
Tomato firmware works better than the linux based firmware that the unit ships with

Great range especially since it's in a big house! Last time I checked, it made it all the way to my neighbor's shed (about 230 ft.)
Constantly resetting it gets annoying

An OK Wireless-G Access Point, but needs an overhaul to be top drawer.
Default setup easy, but then needs to be made more secure ; Offers AES algorithm and WPA2 system
Default settings well known, personalised settings easily lost. Default IP address of 192.168.1.245 may go AWOL with Netgear routers with default gateway of 192.168.0.1. Can be temperamental - overheating? Range OK, as is general performance
