Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype

  by Davis D. Janowski (pcmag.com) - Dec, 2006

As with the competing Netgear product, this is a nifty toy for the gadget fiend who has plenty of disposable income and doesn't mind limited connectivity options. Others should save their money.

Much less expensive than the comparable Netgear device. Makes fairly clear calls. Supports both WEP and WPA security. Easy to use

Still pricey. On public-access Wi-Fi, works only with the rare, completely open network that requires no browser authentication. Lacks USB-to-PC connectivity. Entering contact info and the like using the phone keypad is cumbersome ; Watch the Skype...

Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype

This Wi-Fi phone for Skype users works well, but it's not worth the price unless you use the service frequently.

Lightweight; elegant design; simple layout; good connection quality at full signal strength

Reception falters when signal strength weakens; so-so battery life; half-second delay when making phone calls, adjusting volume, changing menus; small screen

Double your display real estate by adding a second monitor. It's a snap: Here's how

Belkin Wi-Fi Phone For Skype

With this Wi-Fi connecting handset, you can almost use Skype VoIP like a mobile phone. You don't need to have a computer connected to the net, or even turned on. All you need is a wireless internet connection and you're away.

Simple and easy to use

Clunky and feels easy to break

The actual set itself feels a bit clunky though. It's styled like an old Sony Ericsson mobile, but is slightly bigger and feels a lot less sturdy. The buttons have a lot of travel and are just asking for pocket lint to fuzz up the contacts. Still, it's...

With this mobile Skype phone from Belkin, you can take it out on theroad, piggybacking from one Wi-Fi hotspot to another and Skype people to your heart's content.

Mobile Skype, Lightweight and simple, Great voice quality

Clunky software, Unresponsive keypad, Poor, small screen

A great idea, and works as advertised, but the phone could be more responsive, have more features and a better build quality.

This has one clever plus on the large range of Skype phones, to use this the PC does not need to be turned on. So provided you have a wireless router that's it.

The is 11.5x5x2cm and looks exactly like a chunky mobile phone. The weight is close to 100grams and the rubberised exterior says it could survive the odd drop onto the carpet. Belkin WiFi phone for Skype It has 16 buttons plus the ubiquitous...

Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype

Skype is the biggest player in the VoIP market, and has teamed up with Belkin to create this WiFi VoIP mobile with Skype software built in.

Stylish design, easy to use, can work independently of a Mac, offers cheap international phone calls

Phone quality is so erratic as to make it unusable, limited WiFi access in the UK, The Cloud Ultra Talk service not yet priced

The Macworld team was genuinely excited by news of this product, and have been waiting for weeks to test one. Sadly, it simply doesn't work. As an example of future-tech, the Belkin Wi-Fi Phone is interesting; but as a viable product to buy it's a no-go.

Belkin is hot on Netgear's heels in providing a Wi-Fi phone that'll let you Skype without sitting at your PC.

Another device to pull Skype off your PC and put it where it ought to be - on a telephone.

I live in a one bedroom apartment and the phone looses connection the whole time. Sometimes, it does not ring and I had to run to the computer to answer a call. I returned the belkin I purchased. I would not recommend.

I did not find any strength. It was just too bad

The whole peace is weak

It's a great concept and design in principal but falls short in reality. The battery life for voice calls is limited to about 1hr. You can only make voice calls on this device: You cannot "text" chat with your Skype buddies. Another warning: It does...

Easy to use, easy to setup. Small and compact: just a candy-bar cellphone. Looks great. Dual voltage 110/220 AC adapter great for Europe/Asia (but only has US plugs)

Mediocre caller volume. Short talktime of around 45min to 1hr between charge. No reset button: need to remove battery to reset. Only has US plugs: need adapter for Europe/Asia. No chat capability

This is a piece of junk. It's a great idea with terrible implementation/execution. Save your money and wait for someone to perfect this type of device, 'cause Belkin sure as heck ain't done it.

it's compact. Relativeley stylish

I think there are a lot of improvements to be done in this Belkin Wifi phone. I personally would not recommend it. Actually one that I would recommend is the Linksys CIT400. Although I know the Linksys CIT400 is not perfect. I even had to reboot it...

Low volume.(Sometimes I just could hear a thing from the other side of the line.)The wife connection sometimes goes off-line and stay off-line.The people complain of an echo.Terrible battery
